7 Reasons to Consider a Destination Wedding

More couples than ever before are opting for destination weddings. Here are a few reasons to consider a destination wedding.

Less Stressful

When researching this topic, we initially assumed that destination weddings would be more stressful… you have to consider the challenges of travelling and having your wedding in an unfamiliar location.  However, we heard the opposite when talking with couples who chose a destination wedding.  Most wedding-targeted resorts do everything they can to help you streamline the process.  Many resorts have on-site wedding coordinators.   You will likely find that you can plan a major portion of your wedding by communicating with one point of contact.

Focus on Those Closest to You

A destination wedding serves as a natural selection process where only your closest people will make the trip.  This allows you to focus your budget and your time on your closest friends and family instead of 300 guests.  You will have the opportunity to spend a few days, instead of just a few hours, with your guests.  The approach creates a more intimate setting as well. Spur Experiences couple Kelly and Evan Massie had this to say about their decision to do a destination wedding, "we chose a destination wedding because we wanted time.  Time with each other with our family and friends, and most of all time to bring two groups of people into one unit of support that stands behind us as we start out on the adventure of life and marriage.  Our wedding week in Mexico was filled with love, laughter and overwhelming joy."

Less Formality

Whether it be on a beach or in the mountains, most destination weddings give you the opportunity to ease up on the formality (or rigidness) of your wedding.  Loosen up the dress code and don’t worry about planning every item down to the minute.

Better Wedding Pictures

This goes without saying.  Destination weddings offer great opportunities for beautiful pictures in a place that most have never been.

Everyone Parties

You generally won’t have to worry about having a DD or taking somebody’s keys.  You also won’t have to worry about somebody skipping out early due to some lame excuse.  Everyone parties at a destination wedding.

Share the Travel Bug

We heard from several couples that their destination wedding had some interesting benefits to the guests.  It allowed the couples to check an item of their travel bucket list.  For some, it basically created a long overdue family reunion.  One couple shared that this “forced trip” turned the bride’s parents, who hadn’t taken a vacation in years, into traveling addicts.

Set a Foundation for Travel

Your wedding will obviously give your partner and you an opportunity to make a lot of commitments to each other.  A destination wedding can set the tone for your marriage in that you intend to make travel and new experiences throughout your lifetimes together.
